U-value / water vapor condensation

This tool calculates the air-to-air heat transmission coefficient (U-value) of an element of the building's envelope (roof, wall or floor). The user can choose (and also define) construction materials and by this the building's envelope can be analyzed and optimized quickly. By saving the different variants, own libraries of constructions can be created.

Input of the different Layers

The input of the different layers happens on the whole for roofs, walls and floors in the same way:

Input of the internal convection coefficient:

By clicking the button "change" a dialog box will open in which the value for the heat transfer from room air to the surface of the construction element can be chosen.

Input of a layer

The buttons in the material list describe the different layers of the construction element. Click on a button of a free layer and choose a material from the list of materials (see below).

Change of a layer

Click the buttons in the material list which should be changed. Then, choose another material from the list of materials.

Deleting a layer

First, click the button "delete" on the left side of the window. Then, click the button of the layer in the material list, which should be deleted.

Inserting a layer

First, click the button "insert" on the left side of the window. Then, click the button of the layer in the material list, which is below the place, where the new layer should be added. Choose a material from the list of materials.

Input of the external convection coefficient

By clicking the button "change" a dialog box will open in which the value for the heat transfer from the construction element to the outside air can be chosen.

Note:
For choosing a layer it is also possible to click in the graphic on the right side of the window.

The actual U-value and the condensed mass of water are shown below the material list.

List of materials

The list of materials contains the properties of important materials and constructional elements. This list can be extended by user defined materials.

The choice of the materials happens by clicking on the group of materials (construction boards, insulation materials etc.) and afterwards on the material itself.

There are two classes of materials:

For taking over the chosen material to the list of layers click the button "OK", or abort th input by clicking "cancel".

Clicking the button "user defined" leads the user to the input of own materials and constructional elements. Those can be materials with fixed or with variable thickness. Choose "new material" to add a material to the list or choose "delete" to remove a material.

Library

The button "library" on the left side of the main screen leads the user to a small selection of standard constructions for roofs, walls and floors. Choose a construction by clicking, and the layers are taken over to the main window. Now you can go on working with this construction.

File

With the help of the "file"-function of the tool the user can load, save or delete a set of layers from / to the disc.

Note:
To open a user defined "wall" variant from a file, the site "wall" in the tool must be choosen before. The same applies to floors and roofs.
